John Welsey Powell is the famous name attached to the 1869 expedition through the Colorado River and Grand Canyon, but what about the rest of the men who rode with him? Men on Boats was a part of Colorado State University’s 2025-2026 season and consisted of 10 actors with 2 of them doubling characters. This show was unique for its use of the river telling the story, and how we as artists can convey this to an audience. As well, it was empowering through the playwright’s demand for these famous, historical men to be played by those that are not.
